Programme Managers and HR Professionals frequently ask how to distinguish the truly excellent or those with high potential from other project staff. For many organisations, it is essential to answer the question, who can really deliver change projects in PPM environments. That is where CUPE Assessment Centres help.
CUPE can provide Assessment Centres for PRINCE2 Professional, APM Practitioner or bespoke PPM Assessment Centres which test the specific areas needed by your company.
The PRINCE2 Professional and APM Practitioner qualifications are for individuals who want to show that they can effectively manage a non-complex project across its lifecycle. You will need to demonstrate your experience.
Suitable candidates will have experience of managing non-complex projects or will have been a team member of a more complex project. Candidates wishing to take the PRINCE2 Professional qualification must also have the PRINCE2 Practitioner qualification. APM Practitioner candidates need to hold the APMP qualification.
This Assessment Centre will form the natural progression on the development path for qualified PRINCE2 Practitioners or APMPs wishing to demonstrate and attain recognition of their ability to manage a project. Registered PRINCE2 Practitioners will still be required to maintain their accreditation. APM continuing education requirements also remain.
The PRINCE2 Professional Assessment Centre tests your ability to run projects for real rather than just in theory. It requires you to work with others, deliver to tight deadlines, produce products, justify your views, persuade others and to be able to identify good solutions with plans to support them. In order to test this, the PRINCE2 Professional qualification moves outside of the boundaries of the PRINCE2 method and syllabus, and includes globally recognised project management competencies.
This Assessment Centre is not a course. No training is provided. It should be noted, however that the assessment process relies heavily on all candidates having a good level of knowledge of structured project management.

PRINCE2 Professional assesses your capability to manage a non-complex PRINCE2 project across all aspects of the project lifecycle. The PRINCE2 Professional qualification is not designed to assess overall competence as a Project Manager as this is not possible out of context of the project environment. It is an assessment at a given moment in time in a specific, somewhat artificial, but generally realistic environment.
Candidates should note that they must not only demonstrate knowledge of PRINCE2 and project management, but also the capability to apply and use that knowledge.
The assessment takes place at an Assessment Centre, held over two days, with a compulsory briefing the afternoon prior to the Assessment starting.
Candidates are provided with constant opportunities to demonstrate evidence of their competence in managing a project using the PRINCE2 method, whilst providing evidence of wider competencies of a Project Manager.
Evaluators collect evidence of competence through observation of group activities, exercises discussion and solving problems relating to the project Case Study. In addition, all candidates are interviewed by their Evaluator(s) on an individual basis during the Assessment Centre.
Having gathered sufficient evidence of a candidate’s capability, Evaluators recommend to APMG that the PRINCE2 Professional qualification be awarded.
Recommendation will be made where the candidate gains a rating of at least 1 for each of the 19 performance criteria and an average score of 1.6 or greater across all performance criteria. Evaluators and the Moderator must judge that a candidate is capable of managing a non-complex PRINCE2 project of the type used as case material during the Assessment Centre.
